Flash Point
Flash point and Fire point testing is conducted on bitumen to know the safe mixing and application temperature values of a particular bitumen grade. It is also a standard specification for a variety of lubricants and oils. Flash point testing measures the lowest temperature at which a volatile material vaporizes, forming an ignitable mixture.
It is important to understand the safe temperature values of bitumen grades for mixing as well as for application. The presence of combustible materials in a bituminous material can be indicated by the fire point. In oil, lubricant and fuel samples, the flash point is used to determine the fire hazard of the sample for transportation and storage purposes as well as the quality of the refining process.
Humboldt provides high quality flash point and fire point testing equipment and all the necessary components for accurate sampling and testing procedures.
Tag, Open Cup Flash Tester – determine the flash and fire points of liquids at temperatures of up to 325°F (163 °C). Electrically heated and gas heated models available.
Cleveland Flash and Fire Point Tester – used to determine the flash point of asphalt binder by the Cleveland Open Cup Method which measures temperatures between 175°F (79°C and 752°F (400°C). Available heating units include a 1250W-10 amp, nickel-chromium heater, single-source natural gas supply, or adjustable position natural gas supply and conform with ASTM D117, ASTM D92 or AASHTO T48 standards, depending on model.
Bacon Bomb Samplers – for obtaining samples from drums, storage tanks and tank cars. Available in 8 oz bacon bomb, 16 oz bacon bomb and 32 oz bacon bomb samplers.
Weighted Beakers – for obtaining samples from tank cars, tank trucks, shore tanks, ship and barge tanks. Multiple sizes available for a variety of testing materials.
Conradson Carbon Residue Apparatus – test petroleum products to determine the amount of carbon residue left after evaporation and pyrolysis of an oil and to indicate relative coke-forming propensities.
